A Letter From Our Pastor
Welcome to Holy Spirit Parish, serving Stittsville and surrounding areas. Our beautiful House of Worship is the place where we praise and thank God. It was built by the prayers and sacrifices of many people and consecrated by Archbishop Terrance Prendergast on March 31, 2008.
If you haven’t already done so, please consider registering as a member of our faith community. Our weekend celebrations of the Eucharist offer us the opportunity to assemble around the Table of God’s Word and the Table of the Eucharist, in a spirit of thanksgiving for all we have received from a loving God.
I hope that you will find a spirit of hospitality among us and that you will discover your own personal gifts of time, talent and treasure. In this way God is truly glorified and our community is blessed.
The financial support of the parish is essential to the maintenance and the mission of the church. I encourage you to assist us by way of financial support. You can do this by signing up for auto-debit or by using a box of envelopes available in the atrium.
You are invited to fill out our parish census form, available at the church, and return it to the office. I would be pleased to visit your family and to bless your home at your convenience. Please call our office at (613) 836-8881 to arrange for this blessing.
The weekly Bulletin features parish events and services and includes our various ministries. You are invited to take a copy with you after Mass. It can also be found on this website.
The Pastoral Team is here to be of service to you. If you have questions or concerns they will be pleased to assist you. Our office personnel will respond promptly to your calls or emails.
The Holy Spirit is the guiding principle of all that we do. It is my hope that this Spirit may unite us in love for God and one another in humility and peace. Together we can discern the ways of the Spirit in our individual lives and for the good of the whole community.
Sincerely in Christ,
Monsignor Joseph Muldoon, Pastor
A Brief History
Holy Spirit, Stittsville, was established as a Mission of Holy Redeemer (Kanata) in October, 1989. Previously the Catholic population attended churches in the surrounding communities – St. Martin de Porres (Nepean) and Holy Redeemer (Kanata).
From 1989, Masses of the Mission were held in the newly built Holy Spirit School. On August 20, 1994, Holy Spirit Parish was officially established with Father Frank Scott as the first pastor. Daily, as well as Sunday Masses were celebrated.
On July 1, 2000, Father Stephen Amesse became Holy Spirit’s second pastor. Over the years, the number of parishioners grew steadily. With the building of a church still in the planning stages, Masses were held in the gym of Sacred Heart High School from December 1, 2001.
Years of planning resulted in the official groundbreaking for the church on April 1, 2007, presided over by Archbishop Marcel Gervais. The first Masses were celebrated on the weekend of Palm Sunday, March 15 and 16, 2008. On March 31, 2008, the church was consecrated by Archbishop Terrance Prendergast.
Father C. Ross Finlan was the parish’s third pastor from August 1, 2009 to July 31, 2012. Monsignor Joseph Muldoon assumed the role of pastor on August 1, 2012 and Archbishop Terrance Prendergast officially installed him on August 12, 2012.
