About Us
Parish Prayer
Come Holy Spirit, most holy patron of our parish. Be with us, your people, as we prayerfully journey together as the people of God. Help us to rediscover the richness and depth of our faith. Help our parish and school family grow together as a community of faith in which we share your love with one another. Grant us growth in faith as we strive to live Christian community in our homes, in our parish, in our schools and in our world. We ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
A Brief History
Holy Spirit, Stittsville, was established as a Mission of Holy Redeemer (Kanata) in October, 1989. Previously the Catholic population attended churches in the surrounding communities – St. Martin de Porres (Nepean) and Holy Redeemer (Kanata). From 1989, Masses of the Mission were held in the newly built Holy Spirit School. On August 20, 1994, Holy Spirit Parish was officially established with Father Frank Scott as the first pastor. Daily, as well as Sunday Masses were celebrated. On July 1, 2000, Father Stephen Amesse became Holy Spirit’s second pastor. Over the years, the number of parishioners grew steadily. With the building of a church still in the planning stages, Masses were held in the gym of Sacred Heart High School from December 1, 2001. Years of planning resulted in the official groundbreaking for the church on April 1, 2007, presided over by Archbishop Marcel Gervais. The first Masses were celebrated on the weekend of Palm Sunday, March 15 and 16, 2008. On March 31, 2008, the church was consecrated by Archbishop Terrance Prendergast. Father C. Ross Finlan was the parish’s third pastor from August 1, 2009 to July 31, 2012. Monsignor Joseph Muldoon assumed the role of pastor on August 1, 2012 and Archbishop Terrance Prendergast officially installed him on August 12, 2012.
