Sacramental Preparation (Baptism, First Communion, First Reconciliation, Confirmation)
Instruction is provided by our parish for school age children and their parents in preparation for the celebrations of the sacraments listed above. Information meetings as well as resources support the parents in their role as the first teachers of their children in the ways of faith.
5 June 2017
Sacraments are special moments of grace in a person’s life. If you wish to have your child celebrate the sacraments of Eucharist and Reconciliation for the first time, or Confirmation, we encourage you to celebrate these special moments with the parishioners of Holy Spirit Parish. Please consider the following information.
RECONCILIATION AND EUCHARIST:
We invite you to attend ONE of the following parent information meetings in our parish church:
Thursday, September 14th, 2017 at 7:30 p.m., or
Sunday September 17th, 2017 at 1:00 p.m.
All meetings are for parents/guardians only and will last about 1 ½ hours. Your presence at one of these meetings is mandatory if you would like your child to celebrate these two sacraments.
If your school aged child has NOT been baptized, there is a different preparation process for them. Please attend one of the above meetings, indicating that you are interested in Baptism.
Traditionally children celebrate the sacraments of Eucharist and Reconciliation for the first time in grade two. However, all sacraments are celebrated when we are ready to celebrate them. Readiness is a topic which will be discussed at the meeting. Some families may have delayed sacraments and are ready this year and therefore are encouraged to attend one of the meetings. If your family would like to delay the sacraments, that is a valid decision, and attendance at the meeting is not expected.
The sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated in June 2018 for the young people in grade six or older. If your child will be in grade six, or in a higher grade, in the fall, you are invited to attend ONE of the following parent information meetings in our parish church:
Thursday September 21st, 2017 at 7:30 p.m., or
Sunday September 24th, 2017 at 1:00 p.m.
All meetings are for parents/guardians only and will last about 1 ½ hours. Your presence at one of these meetings is mandatory if you would like your child to celebrate this sacrament.
Parents interested in learning about Confirmation are not expected to attend the meetings for Reconciliation and Eucharist.
We look forward to seeing you at one of the meetings and working together in our common ministry to the young people entrusted to our care.
